FAQ

  • We are here to outfit your adventure; let us handle the details while you relax and explore! We will provide camping accommodations, including traditional canvas tents on timber frames (unless otherwise discussed), cots, sleeping pads, chairs, tables, etc.; food prepared in camp as well as snacks, picnic lunches, etc.; and saddle horses for all group members. We will take care of all camp chores and horse care while you enjoy the mountains.

  • Yes, we can make a day trip to one of several high country lakes in the area. The horseback ride to the nearest lake is several hours, so is only feasible on trips of at least two nights. If you are interested in fishing, please let us know ahead of time so we can bring the necessary gear, and please remember to purchase your fishing license through Colorado Parks and Wildlife.

  • We will tailor our overnight pack trips to suit your desires, so please be sure to communicate with us your goals for the adventure. Once in camp, we can lead day rides, fishing excursions, hikes, nature and wildlife watching, etc.

Our typical overnight pack trip begins at the Hay Park Trailhead, where we will pair you up with your horse and load up our pack animals. The ride into our summer basecamp is about 4.5 miles and winds through aspen trees, dark timber, wildflower meadows and along creeks and wetlands.

Once in camp, we will eat lunch and enjoy an afternoon or hiking, horseback riding or relaxing before cooking and eating dinner by the campfire (subject to local fire restrictions).

On full days, we can pursue activities of your choice, including horseback riding, hiking, fishing, etc. after a hearty breakfast in camp.

On packout day, we will enjoy a leisurely breakfast before packing up and heading back down the trail to camp.

  • Our base camp includes two fully furnished canvas wall tents erected on timber frames, a tent outhouse, fire ring and outdoor chairs. The horses are highlined in camp!

  • On overnight trips, the goal is to pack as light as possible (since horses and mules will be transporting our gear) while still ensuring you have the necessary gear to be warm, dry and comfortable. Weather in Colorado can be unpredictable, and summer days are often hot, while nights are cool. Please pack gear in a duffel bag. Let us know if you do not have anything on the list, and we can assist you.
